THE CHASI Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) who was leading the tribal agitation to lead the lives free from the clutches of money lenders, land grabbing non-tribals, liquor (vendors belonging to a particular community), corrupt politician equally corrupt bureaucrats; the agitation almost turned into peace after visiting the village of Bhaliaput by series of peaceful committees. When the tribals failed to get back their paternal land through a democratic process, they got the land back through a mass movement. Here the question of the leader and leadership don’t arise. However, quite surprisingly the government declared Nachika Linga as the ‘most wanted person’, which recollects no other than British raaj before independence.
I don’t know whether it is a democracy or demon cracy that is prevailed in Narayanpatna. The armed constabulary deployed in Narayanpatna doesn’t know the language spoken by the tribals. The area has turned into a hunting ground backed by bureaucrats. It seems like the politicians are sitting at New Delhi or at Bhubaneswar only to dictate the terms to its armed constabulary most probably to eliminate the name of peace. This is what actually happened several times even before independence.
Around 64 persons including children were taken to police custody and confined in jail. The cases initiated against them attracted the punishment of life imprisonment or hang till death. It is practically not possible on the part of the lawyers to bail them out within months.
The armed constabularies are now a part of the state terrorism looting and destroying the belongings of the tribals which include chickens, goats and other tribal food items which are essential throughout the year. Public Distribution System (PDS) system completely failed. The tribal after seizing their paternal lands from the non-tribals, cultivated and expected bumper crop for the first time this year as they used organic fertilisers. When they were about to harvest the paddy, the police calculatedly killed the tribal leader M Singanna and two others and followed systematically an air of depression among the tribals.
Is it not the duty of the sub-collector who claimed to belong to a poor farmer family to look out the other farmers (tribals) those who are starving without food? In fact, the tribals raised healthy crops successfully on 2000 acres but after the killing of their leader on November 20, 2009, the fields are still waiting of harvesting. In the meantime, the state influences the CMAS to share the crops between the tribals and non-tribals.
The cruel administration and the hiding attacks spoiled the farming infrastructures of the tribal at Narayanpatna which leads to slavery once again after 64 years of independence. Now the activists are prevented to enter Narayanpatna, independent press is also not allowed to enter and even if it enters its movements are being watched by the plain dressed police officials. Only local press and electronic media representatives who are also the part and partials of tribal land grabbers are allowed to enter the region. In such situation it is difficult to understand whether the Koraput district is manned by destruct administration or police officials.
The press is also not allowed to meet the UTPs of Narayanapatna in Koraput jail even though it obtained the permission from the district magistrate who is the competent authority to permit to meet the UTPs inside jail as per the jail manual.
