National Tribal Festival to commence in New Delhi on February 21, 2009

A three-day festival highlighting the rich tribal heritage of India will begin in the capital on February 21, 2009.

‘Prakriti’- National Tribal Festival-- is organised by The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, according to a release. Minister for Tribal Affairs P R Kyndiah will inaugurate the festival.

The Festival will highlight the tribal heritage through display of crafts like metal, pottery, cane and bamboo, textiles, jewellery, food products and paintings.

Other highlights of the festival will be a photo exhibition of award winning and selected photographs of the 2nd National Level Photographic Competition, 2008 on the theme ‘Tribals: Forest Dwellers’.

Kyndiah will give away the prizes to the winning photographers from all over the country. The festival will also showcase tribal dances including Harul Dance from Uttarakhand; Mardani Jhumar Dance from Jharkhand; Marayoorattam and Mulam Chenda Dance from Kerala; Saila Karma Dance from Madhya Pradesh; Kinnauri Nati Dance from Himachal Pradesh; Saharia Swang from Rajasthan and Nyuru Jingti from Nagaland.
