Tribal issues, power top Raman Singh's priority list

Raipur, jan 2 : Inclusion of tribals in Below Poverty Line (BPL) list and allocation of seperate funds for them, making Chhattisgarh a zero power-cut state and ensuring completion of all ongoing projects in time are the major issues which top the priority list of Chief Minister Raman Singh.

"Due to a different lifestyle, tribals are often left out in the BPL list prepared as per the norms set by the central government. My priority now is to include them in the BPL list," Raman Singh, who has been elected chief minister for the second time, said.

"Besides, I want to make Chhattisgarh a zero power-cut state and link power production to the state's economic growth. Completion of all ongoing projects in the set time frame is another priority," Singh said.

Austerity Will mark the state government's spending in the new financial year with the exchequer already bearing an additional burden of Rs 2300 crore due to several schemes as promised by the ruling party in its election manifesto.

The Rs 220 per quintal bonus to paddy farmers would cost the state exchequer Rs 880-900 crores, the Rs 2 and Rs 1 rice to about 37 lakh families would amount to Rs 1441 crores.

Without divulging any budgetary plans, Singh, who holds the state finance portfolio, said he had asked his departments to limit their spending and that the government was planning to generate additional revenue with the use of several measures.

Yet another task for 'Doctor sahab' is to bring about a thaw in Centre-state relations that witnessed some stormy encounters in the pre-election months.
