CPI raps Chidambaram for justifying Salwa Judum's actions

New Delhi, Jan 13: In the wake of the alleged fake encounter of 17 tribals in Chhattisgarh, the CPI today criticised Home Minister P Chidambaram for justifying the actions of anti- Maoist movement Salwa Judum and dubbed his approach as"dangerous".

"It is amazing that the Home Minister who had spoken in the Rajya Sabha against&aposnon-state actors&apostaking law into their own hands, has turned around and fully justified and praised the actions of Salwa Judum while addressing the (recent) conference of Chief Ministers and promised to extend all help to them from the Centre,"the CPI said in a statement.

The CPI condemns this"dangerous approach"of the UPA government, the party&aposs Central Secretariat said.

The party alleged that the police in Chhattisgarh along with Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Salwa Judum have killed 17 tribals, including 6 women in"cold blood"on January 8 in the vicinity of Gollapali village at Dantewara district which is on the border of Andhra Pradesh.

"The CPI demands a high level judicial probe into this fake encounter,"the party stated alleging that the encounter is being projected as an justified offensive against the Naxalites.

"The party does not accept any so-called administrative enquiry which is only designed to cover up the heinous crime,"it added.

Maintaining that its leader Manish Kunjam, who is also the president of All India Adivasi Mahasabha, visited the place and identified those killed, the CPI said he also visited the adjoining villages"from where the villagers were picked up by the police and the SPOs, dragged to the jungle and shot dead.
