Two arrested for attack on dalit welfare officer

Muzaffarnagar , March 31 Police today arrested two persons in connection with the attack on a dalit district welfare officer, in which one of the accused is a Samajwadi Party leader.

Ashok Kumar Kashyap and Adesh Thakur were arrested while four other accused including SP leader Mukesh Choudhray have been absconding, Superintendent of Police Vijay Prakash told reporters here.

The officer, Rinku Singh, was shot at by the accused and was seriously injured. It was alleged that Choudhary, who is the proprietor of several schools, was unhappy with Singh for ordering an inquiry into alleged corruption dealings in the department.

Police have started proceedings against those absconding and their properties will be seized. Choudhray has contested 2002 Assembly election from Baghra on an SP ticket.
