Daya Ram, a daily wage labourer, confessed that he had enticed the daughter of his friend, a rickshaw puller, into his hut to get peanuts Monday night.
After raping the child, he stranged her and threw her body in a ditch, said Superintendent of Police Anant Dev.
Police carried out an extensive search in the area Tuesday after the victim’s father complained that his daughter had been missing since Monday night. The officials arrested Daya Ram on suspicion and interrogated him.
Daya Ram has been charged with abduction, rape, murder and tampering with evidence.
