Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parshad Not To Support Gorkhaland Movement

The tribals of Dooars, West Bengal have decided to oppose the Gorkhaland movement of Darjeeling hills. A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parshad (ABAVP) assured West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee that the tribals are with the state government and will not support the movement.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has agreed to the demands the tribals for more schools in the region. As per reports the secretaries of the school education and backward classes welfare departments have been asked by the CM to visit the Dooars on February 1. The withdrawal of support by the tribal community is expected to weaken Gorkha Janmukti Morcha's demand for separate Gorkhaland.

According ABAVP president Birsa Tirkey, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters have been circulating the map which includes some of the regions that originally belong to the tribal community. He said that the tribal community will never allow GJM to include the regions under the proposed Gorkhaland. Birsa Tirkey claimed that only a few tribals are with the GJM.
